About
Since early childhood, Asher Kaplan has known he wanted to make films, drawn to storytelling as a way to explore what lies just beyond the familiar. That drive has led him to direct thirteen short films and counting, each examining complex and often mysterious themes at the intersection of human experience and the unknown, with a particular fascination with time, physics, and perception.
While still in high school, Asher gained early industry experience working in development with director Shawn Levy (Star Wars: Starfighter, Deadpool, Free Guy, Night at the Museum) at 21 Laps Entertainment, and as a production assistant and editor at Workshop Creative, a leading movie trailer studio. These formative experiences sharpened his sense of story, pacing, and emotional impact.
Music has always been central to his creative life. Asher began playing drums and piano at the age of five and has been composing original scores for the past eight years, bringing an added emotional depth to his films.
Asher is deeply collaborative by nature, with extensive experience working alongside accomplished industry talent including Paul Ben Victor (The Irishman, The Wire, Entourage), Rob Morrow (Numb3rs, Billions), Jon Tenney (The Closer, The Lincoln Lawyer), and Ray Abruzzo (The Sopranos, Bad Education) as well as seasoned crew members, and fellow directors.
In 2024, Asher graduated from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, where his work received repeated recognition both domestically and at international film festivals. His films were nominated for a Student Academy Award, and his short film Mindset won Best Picture at the Orange Film Festival.
He continues to pursue ambitious, thought-provoking work that invites audiences to engage, reflect, and question what they think they know.
